Soubes revisited

So we've moved back into the Soubes house. It was interesting and nice living so removed from the world and yet so close to town in the stone cottage, in fact I preferred many aspects of the more bucolic lifestyle over there. I learned anew that Kepler really does love having a yard. And I learned that fireplaces are nice to the point of being a near-necessity in any future home.

But the simple lack of an internet connection made it ultimately an impossible place to stay. It paralysed our property search, froze our lives sort of dead in their tracks for a moment of breathing space, but we have a task to complete. We need to find a house. And so back to Soubes it is.

In a way it's nice to be back. Not only because the kitchen is so much better equipped, but because there is community here. We see people we know. Not only Greta's family, who oddly never contact us, but always leave it to us to seek them out; but also other people in town. The bar man. The shop lady. parents of other kids. They recognize us now, and somehow we're living here as though we lived here, and it's very comfortable.

I also appreciate the fact that Soubes has a shop and a bar. Not every village has such useful amenities. And another thing going for it: our door and shuters are Kepler's favorite color. It is a nice life here.

Except for the sacrifice of the garden, which does sting a little. But like I said, we need to conduct our search, and for that we need the internet.

Besides, "S" says she has another place coming available in a week which has both a garden and a phone line. That sounds great, but for the moment, I'm liking Soubes. Stay tuned.
